So up to the temperature of 218 °C, the silicone layer blocks oxygen and insulates the paper from heat. That is why we usually consider the use of paper safe at around 220 degrees.
Butcher Paper
Butcher paper is mot os the time used uncoated, but due to the presence of residual lignin and high thickness, this paper can withstand heat during the whole smoking BBQs. The lignin molecular structure starts breaking at 200–500 °C, which forms 5 to 20 percent of the butcher paper sheets. The feature of lignin creates a carbonaceous layer that slows down the breaking process and makes the paper safe for high temperature applications.
