    DESIGN Custom Wax Paper

    description

In the food industry, brands extensively use wrapping papers to store, protect, and present the food. The innovation in the technological sector has allowed brands to get two additional benefits from custom wraps such as custom wax paper which are getting customers’ attention and brand promotion.

The flexible, moisture-resistant, and adaptive nature of this custom wrap allows brands to revamp the way they can present their product and elevate their market value. Paper coated with wax is a practical solution to wrap foods that contain sauces, high-fat content, cheese, etc.

Custom wax paper for restaurants has made it easy for brands to sell their food without the fear of sogginess as the paper can absorb steam emanating from the food. With quality material, catchy designs, and your branding element, this food wrap entirely changes the way customers perceive you.

    What is wax paper?

Wax-coated paper is a type of custom food wrap that is made of two components, the one is the base material which is bleached kraft, and the second one is the wax. This wax coating gives nonstick, moisture, and grease-resistant properties due to which customized wax paper is one of the essential kitchen components. From covering dishes to microwaving food, and lining surfaces all can be done via this paper. One thing that is pertinent to mention here about customized wax-coated paper is that this paper is not resistant to high heat such as baking ovens, the lining of pans for cooking, etc. This is because the wax can melt and catch fire. In addition to its usage in the food sector, the paper is also used in various craft projects, to cover delicate items while storing, etc.

    Types of Wax Paper Materials

Custom wax paper for food is made of kraft that can either be bleached or unbleached. This kraft sheet is then coated with a thin layer of paraffin wax, soy wax, or a blend of the two. The choice of raw materials such as paper and wax highly impacts the resulting quality of the custom wraps such as durability, sustainability, texture, and easy application. Based on material and coating, custom wax paper is of the following types:

    Bleached Kraft Paper

As this paper is treated with a bleaching agent it has a bright and clean surface that allows high-quality printing. The bleached paper is more aesthetically pleasing and usually brands that prefer premium packaging prefer this type.

    Unbleached Kraft Paper

The unbleached custom wax paper restaurant is more environmentally friendly because it is not treated with any kind of bleaching agent. This paper has a rustic appearance and due to limited exposure to chemicals has high durability. Eco-conscious brands can convey their message to customers in an artistic manner by using unbleached or brown wax paper.

Types Of Printing On Wax Paper

Brands invest in the customization of their food wraps because they want much more than the protection of the food items. For instance brand promotion, elegant presentation of products, and getting customer attention. With custom wax paper with logo it has become quite easy for the brands to promote themselves and the catchy prints on the paper allow brands to give the customers a unique experience. On wax-coated kraft paper, conventional printing techniques such as laser printing are not suitable because this paper is non-porous that is why we use the following options for printing:

    Offset Printing

Offset printing is a popular method to produce high volumes of printed paper. This method involves printing plates that transfer inks to a rubber blanket and then to the substrate.  With it, we produce high-quality, shared images that contain a consistent color distribution. For intricate designs, multi-color printing, and wax paper rolls it is a suitable method because here detailed logos and design elements are required.

    Flexography

Flexography is a rotatory printing process in which we use flexible plates that are ideal for printing on non-porous surfaces like wax-coated papers, Flexography is a fast printing process and works efficiently with multiple types of inks. Moreover, this method also reduced custom wax paper prices due to the low cost per unit.

    Screen Printing

In this method, inks are pushed through a mesh screen onto the required substrate. The screen printing method is an ideal option for bold designs and limited color schemes. It gives vibrant colors, excellent opacity, and design with high contrast and gradients. Unlike flexography and offset printing this method is not for large runs.

    Digital Printing

As the name of the printing method shows, it uses electronic files to print directly on paper. It does not require printing plates and has a low setup cost. The digital printing method allows easy printing of custom wax paper sheets with accurate colors and intricate designs.

    Inkjet Printing

Inkjet printing involves the direct spray of ink onto the surface of the paper. Due to the direct ink spray, it is a good option for versatile designs. It is an affordable method for small runs and where highly customized designs are preferred. When compared to other printing methods it is way more flexible because you do not have to invest in expensive printing plates, it can be used with any type of ink, it gives the printing of variable data such as QR with accuracy, and finally, the resulting designs have photographic quality.

    Laser Printing

Laser printing is not a suitable method for custom wax paper food wraps mainly because of the nature of the material. In this method, we use heat to fuse toner onto the surface of the paper. As we know wax paper has a thin layer of paraffin of soy wax which cannot withstand high temperatures. This melting of wax will smudge the designs and transfer wax onto the printer potentially damaging the equipment or the paper can also get damaged. That is why we do not entertain our customers with laser printing for custom wax papers.

Add-Ons And Coatings For Wax Paper

Add-ons and coating increase the functionality and the appearance of the custom food wraps. For instance, when one has to increase the nonstick properties of a paper then silicone coating is applied, and the resulting paper i.e. parchment paper acquires non-stick properties. In the same manner, we apply different types of wax coatings and add-ons on the custom sheets to impart unique and valuable properties.

    Embossing/Debossing

These two methods give raised and recessed impressions respectively. So if you want to give your customers a tactile experience of your logo or any other design then you can opt for any of the two options.

    Die-Cutting

Die-cutting is a process in which we create custom raps of variable sizes, shapes, and dimensions. This allows us to give our customers the exact shape and size they were looking for, for instance, custom wax paper bags, sheets, rolls, etc.

    Anti-Grease Coatings

This is a coating that imparts special properties to the paper. As the name indicates, it is used to enhance the grease-resistant properties of the wraps just like greaseproof paper. The application of this coating makes our custom-printed wax sheets suitable for wrapping oily foods.

    Heat-Sealable Coatings

Custom wax-coated paper can be coated with heat-sealable castings; these coatings create a bond when the sheets are exposed to heat. This makes the paper tingly bound to the food without the use of any adhesives. This is one of the most premium features of paper customization because it enables the custom wraps to keep the food fresh and resistant to any contaminated exposure.

Types of Wax And Their Applications

At our company, you can get the most diverse and unique options of coatings that will allow you to make your products ad out and give your food the protection and presentation you desire. We know that different brands have different requirements and values when it comes to packing food, which is why we give the following different types of coatings on custom printed wax paper. The customer is the sole decision maker when it comes to the selection of the wax type but for help, the customer can get free of cost assistance from our packaging experts.

    Paraffin Wax

Apart from the material, the application of coatings is also essential to provide moisture and grease-resistant properties to the paper and prevent penetration. Petroleum-based wax is applied on the surface for a smooth look. This coating option is common due to its affordability and effectiveness. This is an ideal option when you have to use wax-coated papers for general purposes. Paraffin wax provides a perfect balance of moisture resistance and cost-effectiveness. In the food sectors, this is a common option.

    Soy Wax

Considering the environmental consciousness of the brands, there is a plant-based alternative to paraffin wax called soy wax. This wax is environmentally friendly and gives the same moisture and grease-resistant ability to wax papers, nonetheless, it is slightly expensive. Soy wax is a biodegradable option and brands that want to reduce their carbon footprint usually prefer this coating. This is also moisture resistant so keep your food fresh.

    Beeswax

It is an uncommon coating option but is considered a natural and sustainable alternative to wax. Moreover, it contains moisture resistance properties along with a pleasant natural aroma. Where elegant presentation and artistic impressions are required then this coating is preferred.
